Black History Month

Our contribution to marking Black History Month is by celebrating the life of one of the first famous boxers “Jack Johnson”, also known as Galveston Giant. Jack Johnson was born on March 31st 1878. His parents were former slaves that worked their way up in society and were responsible for bringing up six children.  Jack fought hard to be acknowledged in the boxing world, but later he opened the door and became the world first African American heavyweight champion.
